The Face of Evil introduces Louise Jameson as Leela, who was inspired by Emma Peel of “The Avengers” and Palestinian terrorist Leila Khalid as well as Eliza Doolittle. The story was written with two endings penned, one with Leela going off with The Doctor and one where she didn’t. The TARDIS displays nexial discontinuity. The TARDIS materialises on a jungle planet (that looks like it was dressed in bubble wrap by Elton John's interior designer) and the Fourt.

Doctor Who started the of year by sending the now companionless Doctor to a remote planet and having him befriend a savage, and scantily clad, warrior woman: Leela. The Face of Evil is a very good story. It aired during on to the show's high points.
